Descripción

A school of Pure Land Buddhism in Japan which focuses on the mercy and power of Amida Buddha, the Buddha of infinite light and deep compassion. It is by the grace of Amida that one can be reborn into Amida's paradise or Pure Land, and from there one can eventually attain nirvana. The school was founded in 1175 by Honen, who emphasized the practice of 'nembutsu,' the repeated calling upon the name of Amida Buddha. Jodo is the second largest school of Pure Land in Japan.
