Descripción

One of two long-lived species of bristlecone pine (the other is Pinus aristata) that grow at high altitudes in the Western U.S. Pinus longaeva lives longer than any other tree. Dendrochronological studies have produced a continuous tree-ring sequence back to 6700 BC for a sample in the White Mountains of California. Like other bristlecone pines, its cones have long curving spines on each scale.
