Descripción

Species of small to medium-sized chestnut originally native to Japan and South Korea, but now widely cultivated in eastern China and Taiwan. It is an important tree in Japan for its sweet, edible nuts, known in various cultivars that have been selected for large nut size. It is resistant to chestnut blight that devastated the American chestnut; it has been used in the development of disease-resistant hybrids.
