It was first produced about 1500 and is associated with Urbino. The earliest examples were decorated only in the well of plates and dishes; later the decoration extended to the entire inner surface. Images were often derived from works of contemporary artists, notably those reproduced in the engravings of Marcantonio Raimondi.</skos:note>
