The first examples appeared around 1745 and featured the Royalist fleur-de-lis. Republican themes soon appeared, including the Phrygian cap, the Gallic cock, plows, oak trees, draped flags, the Bastille, and slogans and scenes related to liberty, the rights of man, the Third Estate, and agriculture.</skos:note>
