Battens (fasteners and supports)

Thin supporting strips, usually of wood, used to hold together boards, panels, or planks of wood in order to join them, give them strength, and prevent warping. Examples of battens are on the reverses of panel paintings and the cross boards on board-and-batten shutters and doors.
