<rdaGr2:biographicalInformation xml:lang="es">A Demêtre Chiparus se le considera el maestro de la Escultura Decó en bronce y marfil. Nacido en Rumania, se instaló en París donde produjo multitud de estatuillas de bronce y marfil. Elegía ídolos de la sociedad de su tiempo Chiparus legó al coleccionismo Art Decó una fiel representación de la moda contemporánea, desde Ida Rubesnstein Vaslav Nijinsky de los Ballets Rusos hasta "The Dolly Sisters" o un coro de bailarinas de cabaret, "The Girls". Otras obras de Chiparus muestran el interés por Oriente que existía en la capital francesa, así como los vestidos de Léon Bakst, los diseños de moda de Paul Poiret, la vida de cabaret o el jazz. El punto fuerte de Chiparus no era tanto la calidad de su talla de marfil, sino el tratamiento que le daba a los vestidos de bronce de sus figuras, un verdadero trabajo de orfebrería. Cuando elegía una pieza de marfil para la cara o los miembros del personaje, tenía buen cuidado de asegurarse de que si grano siguiera la línea natural de los rasgos, para conseguir un efecto realista. Al bronce le dedicaba la misma atención de detalle. Los adornos decorativos de los corpiños y de las medias los trataba con todo cuidado para conseguir una decoración precisa. Las figuras estaban montadas sobre bases cuyas formas eran parte integrante de la composición escultórica. Alguna de ellas llevaban incrustadas placas de bronce que respondían al tema principal. Muy pocas, de esas figuras era pieza única, lo que hace relativamente asequible una pieza en la actualidad, aunque las ediciones de los modelos más elaborados se solían realizar en tiradas limitadas. Las piezas de Chiparus se realizaban en fundiciones y manufacturas que también utilizaban sus contemporáneos. Se sabe que sus primeras piezas provenían de la fundición Etling y de LN&JL las posteriores. Los modelos eran asequibles, por aquel entonces el marfil era más barato que el bronces, y Chiparus realizaba piezas en diferentes tamaños y con diferentes cantidades de bronce y marfil para que así fuera.</rdaGr2:biographicalInformation>
