The field of study and practice of designing the specific appearance, integration, and function of cities, towns, and villages. It is an interdisciplinary field that works with many built environment professions, including urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, and civil engineering. For the field concerned with long-term planning for additions and improvements to the spatial organization and content of urban areas, use “urban planning.”
