Descripción
Genus containing over 70 species of flowering plants native to North and South America, including the species N. tabacum that is cultivated on a large scale. Tobacco is smoked or chewed for its sedative and narcotic effects; it was used ceremonially by Native American cultures by around 3000 BCE.
