Descripción
Genus containing 10 species; it is the only genus of the family Platanaceae. These large trees are native to North America, eastern Europe, and Asia. They are characterized by scaling bark; large, deciduous, usually palmately lobed leaves; and globose heads of flower and seed. They bear flowers of both sexes on the same tree but in different clusters.
