Descripción

Members of a family containing around 2,500 species of insects having two pairs of membranous wings, prominent compound eyes, three simple eyes (ocelli), and with males having the ability to produce distinctive sounds by vibrating membranes (timbals) near the base of the abdomen. Most species have a lifepan of two to five years, while some species have long life cycles, even up to 13 and 17 years.
