<people in government and administration> > rulers (people)

Descripción

Refers to people in a position of power or authority who exercise it oppressively, cruelly, or unjustly, especially those holding supreme political power. It may also refer specifically to rulers in ancient Greece and Sicily who usurped power from the legal authorities or inherited such power, but often with popular support. For non-hereditary rulers who exercise absolute power over the government of a nation, whether or not cruelly or unjustly, see "dictators."
