Descripción
Describes motion picture film that is 8 millimeters wide, the narrowest gauge available for such film. Introduced in 1932 for use by amateur filmmakers and for home movies, 8mm film was also taken up by filmmakers of the avant0garde and the underground, due to the comparatively low cost of the film stock and the processing. Since the mid-1960s, standard 8mm film has been generally superceded by the Super 8 type.
