Marriage (social construct)

Generally refers to the legal and social union of a man and woman as husband and wife, although in recent time the term has also been applied to the union of a gay couple as well. The term is sometimes used to refer to a close or intimate union in a general sense, not limited to people. For the act or ceremony of instituting a marriage, use "weddings (ceremonies)."
