Employment

The degree or extent to which paid work is provided or available to the population. For the ongoing activity of providing individuals with and paying them for work, use "employing." For the action of engaging the services of a person or persons for wages or other payment, use "hiring." For the concept of those activities that people pursue as their livelihood or their primary business or work, whether paid or not, use "occupations."
