Refers to the awareness or consciousness of an organism to the relative position and orientation of its body and to the objects around it; based on recognition of depth and distance and other external stimuli. The concept also describes the compensatory capacity to use limited perceptual clues to orient oneself or predict and construct an environment's spatial field.
