Descripción
Refers generally to the belief that God only works in a person who is completely quiet and passive; religious followers should therefore withdraw from the everyday world and suppress their will. It also refers more specifically to forms of Christian mysticism, particularly to trends in the Middle Ages and 17th-century controversies in Spain and France.
