Refers to the work of a group of artists exhibiting in London in the late 1980s and 1990s. Reacting against Minimalist and Conceptualist art, the work is characterized by an emphasis on multimedia, slick and self-conscious promotion of artwork and exhibitions, clever, literary titles and ironic, shocking imagery.
