Descripción

Refers to carved and painted wooden sculptures found in northern and central New Ireland. These figures function as a representation of ancestral or mythological beings during secret ceremonies known by the same name. The sculptures have clearly defined anatomies and sharply sculptured facial features, which give the figures a threatening appearance. Both male and female uli have exaggerated sexual organs and legs.
