Descripción

Describes the various types of artwork created by a group of inhabitants of New Britain Island. The Baining people are well known for their masks and headdresses, which continue to be used in many areas of the New Britain Islands. The masks are conical in form and made of canes, poles, and barkcloth with white, black, and red designs, and are utilized in secretive male cults.
