Refers to the style in European interior design, furniture, and ceramics in the late 18th century. Derived mainly from the motifs and colors of Greek vases, at the time thought to be Etruscan, the style features griffins, palmettes, harpies, lions, and sphinxes, and the use of colors red, black, and white.
