Refers to the period and style of art that coincided with the time in Roman history when popular assemblies and the Senate were superceded by the reign of Emperors, most notably Augustus. The style is characterized by the influence of Classical Greek art and the construction of large-scale temples, forums, aqueducts, and villas.
