Refers to the period in Egypt from about 2130 to 1970 BCE comprising the Ninth Dynasty and Tenth Dynasty. The period is characterized by a shift of power from the city of Memphis to Heracleopolis after which the period is named. Little is known of the art and architectue of the period.
