Descripción

Refers to a stage of Upper Paleolithic stone tool-making culture that is believed to have developed in Asia but was later concentrated in the Périgord region of France. It is characterized by the preference for curved-backed knives that are sharpened on both the cutting edge and the back, as well as other stone tools. Châtelperronian culture was formerly held to be an early stage of Aurignacian culture, but is now believed to overlap with Lower Perigordian.
