Refers to the first of four divisions of La Tène art as defined by Paul Jacobsthal's in 1944. It flourished from the fifth to the early fourth centuries BCE, and is characterized by Oriental and classical influences. Jacobsthal La Tène style sequence has been challenged by modern scholars.
