Descripción

Refers to the phase of the Heian period that developed from approximately 794 to 898. In painting and sculpture, the style is characterized by powerfully built figures with forbidding expressions and strong, dynamic lines. In architecture, the style is characterized by small, irregular-plan temple complexes set in remote mountain settings.
