Descripción

Monolithic stone figures carved of volcanic tuff, a soft volcanic stone. On average, the moai sculptures stand 13 feet high and weigh 14 tons. The moai represent the Easter Island ancestral chiefs whose supernatural power protected the community. The common structure of the moai consists of a trunk, engraved, inset arms and an angular head. Monumental moai figures are the most common and well known of Easter Island art, although various sizes and styles of moai do exist.
