Folded books developed in Japan and China in which the text block is composed of individual folded sheets, gathered so that the folds are at the back while, at the fore edge, the edge of one leaf of each folded sheet is adhered to the edge of the adjacent leaf. The text block is covered by a single sheet adhered to the first and last leaves but not attached to the spine.
