Documents certifying the official remission by the Church of the temporal punishment due for sins that have been forgiven; outlawed in 1567. Authoritative grants from the Church's treasury for the remission or payment in whole (plenary indulgences) or in part (partial indulgences), valid before God, of the debt of temporal punishment after the guilt of sin has been forgiven.
