Access points to a bibliographical record based upon subject terminology, usually from a standardized or controlled vocabulary. Subject headings are words or phrases; pre-coordination of terminology is a characteristic of subject headings, meaning that they combine several unique concepts together in a string (e.g., "Medieval bronze vessels" combines a period, material, and work type in one heading).
