Descripción
Refers to symbols or other marks made by masons, generally incised into the stone. They were used to indicate a mason's responsibility for a building or sections of a building. They were often very elaborate marks, sometimes used in conjunction with a signature. The term may also refer to marks incised on stones to indicate in which part of the building they belonged.
