Visual works or other objects made from bison or other large-animal hides, particularly the shields, trunks, or containers, and other items made by the North American Plains Indians. Examples are large, folded, rectangular envelopelike containers, characteristically decorated with painted designs, and used for the packing of dried meat and other dried foods, blankets, or clothing, for example.
