Lyres of the Mediterranean and Persian Gulf regions, having a circular or bowl-shaped body from which protrude two skin-covered arms, forming two sides of an isosceles triangle whose base is a yoke from which five or six strings, usually of gut, extend to the lower part of the body, attached there to a metal ring which also serves as a bridge.
