Descripción
Stiff, straight, high-backed chairs with solid arms used in Roman homes and public spaces; also, any chair that has the same form. The seat was placed high, requiring a footstool. In a Roman home, it was kept in the atrium for the use of the master of the house when he received guests or clients. Gods and kings in art may be represented as seated in such a chair.
