European staff weapons having a long blade with one cutting edge, convex or of flattened S-shape, divided at the top into a vertical spike and a forward curving hook, and with a horizontal fluke in the center of the back. They were used from at least the middle of the 13th until the 17th century, and were one of the most widely used foot soldiers' weapons.
