Stacks of gold sheets, removed from the "cutches (gold-shaping tools)" and cut into quarters, piled in a stack interleaved with goldbeater's skin and bound with parchment strips, to be beaten thinner in the second stage of producing gold leaf by hand before being moved to "molds (gold-shaping tools)."
