Descripción
Early gold-tooled bookbindings made in Venice and other locations in northern Italy. Stylized arabesques or a small trefoil leaf called an 'Aldine fleuron' often decorate the angles. Simple geometric strapwork or rectangular panels of gold fillets with the book's title or author's name stamped in the middle are typical decorations on these bindings.
