Descripción

Refers to strings of Muslim prayer beads in which units of 99, 33, or other numbers, represent the names of God; they are thought to have originated in Persia. They are typically made of made of wood, bone, or precious stones, with the ends bound together. As the beads are touched one by one, Muslims may recite any of numerous formulas, the most common being "Glory to Allah." Also, since prayer may also be recited in the secret of one's heart, a person can multiply his praises of God by merely moving the beads through his fingers while engaged in conversation.
