Descripción

An element, symbol Cl and atomic number 17, that is at ordinary temperatures a greenish-yellow gas, toxic and corrosive to the eyes and respiratory system. It becomes a liquid at -29 degrees Fahrenheit. It occurs in nature in great abundance in compounds, such as common salt. Free chlorine is used as a sterilizing agent, such as for water.
