Lanyards

Short pieces of rope used in various contexts, including by not limited to the following: a cord or strap used to hold a whistle, knife, or other item around the neck of a person, a cord worn as a symbol of a military citation, a cord used to attach a sign or name tag to an item, a rope used to fasten something on a ship (particularly a rope passing through deadeyes to extend shrouds or stays), or a strong line or rope used to fire a cannon, sound a whistle, or activate some other system.
